Our World
It’s the only place I’ve ever known. I grew up in New Zealand, a place at the edge of the Pacific Ocean. My life was good – great even – in suburban Auckland.
Going to the UK for a trip showed me a history that I’d only read about in books. But for all of this world’s faults (and there’s many) there are some pretty great things too.
It’s home.
The Gateway
The Gateway is a technically a dolmen – a group of huge stones arranged to signal a burial or sacred site. The one that I went through was four stones – three in a triangle shape with one large, flat stone on the top. The three were taller than me, stuck into the earth and pointing upwards – like the stones in Stonehenge, but not that big. They are ancient and magnificent.
The Otherworld
I don’t know that much of the Otherworld yet, except that I found it. I thought it was a mythical, non-existent place so didn’t expect to spend time there on my own. It seems similar – but different. It’s definitely cleaner and brighter with none of the machines that dull my world. I guess the more time I spend there, the more I’ll find out.
Beings of the otherworld
Fae
What can I say? They have pointy ears, they can do some sort of magic and heal really quickly. I’m learning more and more about them every day. What I do know is they’re nothing like the myths and legends. It seems they made up the stories to make humans scared of them because they’re not so different than the rest of us.
Elves
I think I’ve only met one and from what I understand, they’re really smart and really pale. They’re different than the Fae but similar in a sort of ‘cousin’ way, they also have pointy ears. But I shouldn’t judge them all on the only one I’ve ever met
Gnomes
Gnomes are like the stories from my realm – they’re short and round and… kindly. At least the two I’ve met are. They seem like they work hard and enjoy it. Loyal and lovely.
Goblins
Horrible things! Sinewy, ugly, grey and violent. I don’t like them at all and by the sounds of things, most don’t. They’re mercenaries, evidently and not that smart. But smart enough to kill and fight.
Witches
I’ve never met one but whenever the others talk about them, it’s not positive. Their magic is causing issues, it seems and I’m sure the longer I spend in the Otherworld, the more I’ll learn about these creatures.
